Priority 3 - Criminal damage

Damage was discussed as a key issue for residents and a large volume crime within the strategic assessment. From the residents consultation, graffiti eradication was a top priority and many different approaches were discussed.

Aim

To reduce reported incidents of criminal damage, target damage created within the night time economy and eradicate graffiti.

Objectives 2008-2011

  • To reduce incidents of criminal damage (TDC Corporate Plan)
  • Reduce levels of graffiti (BVPI 199b TDC)
  • Percentage of inspected streets assessed as having unacceptable levels of graffiti (NI195 Improved street and environmental cleanliness)

Delivery of these objectives

Reduce reported incidents of criminal damage

As directed by the tactical group through assessment delivered by Kent Police, operations and projects will be planned by the Community Safety Unit.

Damage in the night-time economy

Licensing teams from both the council and police will work together with the partnership to conduct visits and review incidents relating to late night premises, pubs and clubs.

Eradicate graffiti

The Community Safety Unit will look to dedicate resources to tackling offenders through a mixture of enforcement and diversionary activity.
