Priority 2 - Domestic abuse
Identified in the strategic assessment and in a subsequent
follow up report as being an issue of concern for Thanet, in
particular in four key wards of Cliftonville West, Margate Central,
Central Harbour and Dane Valley.
Aim
To raise awareness and reporting for incidents of domestic
abuse. To tackle through enforcement & support the prevalence
of these issues in high incidence areas and increase the rate that
they are reported.
Objectives 2008-2011
- Reduce repeat incidents of domestic abuse (NI032 Repeat
incidents of domestic violence and County Agreement)
- Reduce domestic abuse related murders (NI034 Domestic violence
– murder)
- Increase the reported incidents of domestic violence (TDC
Corporate Plan)
Delivery of these objectives
Raise awareness
The partnership will work alongside the district’s Domestic
Violence (DV) Forum to look at initiatives to raise awareness,
increase reporting and improve detection rates.
Increase support
In partnership with the DV Forum, the community safety unit will
look at provision of support for victims and will aim to provide
any additional service that is practically possible to do so.
Tackle perpetrators
Break the cycle of re-offending by working on the worse cases of
repeat domestic abusers through the Identified Prolific and
Priority Offender Group.
