Key Priorities 2009

The strategic assessment coupled with consultation events with partner agencies and residents have drawn together five key priorities for the Thanet District for 2009/10. These are in no particular order:

Priority one: Violence in the night-time economy

This was identified in the strategic assessment as being the highest in the county and one of the highest levels in Thanet’s ‘most similar group’ on government website Iquanta. In particular, there is reference to violent offences on a Friday and Saturday night between 2100hrs and 0300hrs.

Priority two: Domestic abuse

This was identified in the strategic assessment and in a subsequent follow up report as being an issue of concern for Thanet, in particular in four key wards of Cliftonville West, Margate Central, Central Harbour and Dane Valley.

Priority three: Criminal damage

Damage was discussed as a key issue for residents and a large volume of crime within the strategic assessment. From the residents’ consultation, graffiti eradication was a top priority and many different approaches were discussed.

Priority Four: Anti-social behaviour

Anti-social behaviour has been highlighted by consultation and the assessment, and is considered to be a concern across the district, but in particular, the five key wards of Cliftonville West, Margate Central, Eastcliffe, Central Harbour and Dane Valley.

Priority Five: Community engagement

Through local media, Partners and Communities Together (PACT) and regular resident consultation, communities across Thanet will receive information on community safety work and have a say about community payback priorities to improve public perception.
