Feeling Safe
Community Safety Open Forums
Four community safety open forums, the first of their kind, were
held in Birchington, Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate during
February and March 2011.
Over 150 people attended the forums and had the chance to...
- Find out the crime statistics for Thanet and the local
area
- Speak to the Chief Inspector of Kent Police and the Community
Safety Enforcement Manager from Thanet District Council
- Help Thanet Community Safety Partnership to set the priorities
for the local area over the next 12 months
- Help us to get new projects off the ground to improve the level
of safety in your town
Your feedback
Some of the main concerns raised at the
open forums included:
- Dog fouling
- Underage drinking
- Alcohol related crime
- Traffic offences e.g. driving with mobile phones and
speeding
These will now be fed into the Community
Safety Plan for the next 12 months.
Actions for next year
Amongst the actions that residents suggested
that will now be considered for the next year are:
- More information about sentencing of people
- Using street signage to feedback to residents on community
safety issues, such as enforcement action taken against littering,
dog fouling and road safety.
- Naming and shaming on the Community Safety Partnership website
and Facebook for residents who are caught littering or letting
their dog foul.
Questions and Answers
As part of the forums, members of the public had an opportunity
to put questions directly to the Chief Inspector of Kent Police and
the council's Community Safety and Enforcement Manager.
Next steps
As a result of the feedback we received, more forums are being
planned for the future. Details of these forums will be
available here soon and will be promoted through the local
media.
