SOS Trailer

SOS is being given a new meaning in Thanet. The Safety on our Streets (SOS) trailer, a mobile unit with rooms for interviews, counselling and treatment of minor injuries started going out around Thanet from 21st July,2010. It is being run by the Thanet Community Safety Partnership and will be out on selected Friday and Saturday nights. New dates and locations coming soon!!

It is hoped that it will save valuable time that it takes to get to those in need after a night out, by providing a base for people to work from and reduce vulnerability and crime.

Decorated in a vibrant yellow and orange colour scheme, the SOS trailer will be easy to spot on the streets!

The SOS trailer consists of four rooms: a treatment room for paramedics to deal with minor injuries, an interview room where police staff can help with any questions or queries that people may have been concerned with during their night out. There is also a counselling room where a sexual outreach worker will be available to help.

People enter through an information area, where you can be greeted by staff from Kent Police, Thanet District Council, sexual outreach, community pastors, paramedics and drug and alcohol teams. This is a scheme that has worked well in other parts of the country, helping to make people feel safer and reduce crime.

All staff manning the SOS trailer will be available to speak to people and offer advice between the hours of 7pm and 1am.
