Strategic Assessment

The East Kent Strategic Assessment for November 2007 to March 2009 was delivered to partners in December 2007 and gave key recommendations based on analysis of Kent Police and other key data.

The strategic assessment replaces the previous crime audit process and looks at statistical data in a more useful way, highlighting trends and identifying not only what is happening but also where, when and what is needed to tackle it as well as emerging threats.

The document has been completed as per national intelligence model guidelines and with the co-operation of key partner personnel. The report used crime records, intelligence reports, analytical products and information provided by partner databases.

The report concludes that a range of ‘acquisitive crimes’ has seen a steady decrease in the Thanet District such as burglary and theft from a motor vehicle. There has been over recent years, excellent work from Kent Police and partners in driving levels of crime down.

There is however, a growing concern on the biggest areas of volume crime in violence and criminal damage. These two categories of crime make up 40% of overall crime which when coupled with anti-social behaviour drugs provides a picture where the real issues within the area lie.

The strategic assessment recommends from a sound analytical base that the partnerships focus should be on Violence in the Night-Time Economy, Domestic Abuse, Criminal Damage, Anti-Social Behaviour and Substance Misuse.

The report is restricted as there is sensitive data contained within it. Partners can request a copy of the assessment from the Police East Kent Tasking and Co-ordination Group and each request will be considered on its merit.
