Priority 5 - Substance misuse
Aim
To provide drugs and alcohol services, disrupt the drugs market,
increase awareness of the dangers of drugs and alcohol,
rehabilitate individuals that are affected by substance misuse.
Objectives 2008 – 2011
- Reduce acquisitive crime (NI016
serious acquisitive crime rate)
- Reduce alcohol and drug misuse
(County Agreement)
- Reduce re-offending rate of prolific
and priority
- offenders (NI030 Re-offending rate of
prolific and priority offenders)
- Improve perceptions of people in
tackling substance misuse (NI042 Perceptions of drug use or drug
dealing as a problem)
Delivery of these
objectives
To provide drugs and alcohol
services
The partnership will work closely with
Kent Drug and Alcohol Action Team to ensure that additional
services are provided to those affected.
Disrupt the drugs
market
Will be led through the tactical group
by Kent Police to conduct enforcement operations.
Increase
Awareness
Projects will be commissioned and
delivered by the Community Safety Unit to increase awareness of the
dangers of alcohol and drugs.
Monitoring and rehabilitating
users
The prolific offender group will look
to work with individuals to ensure that they stand an improved
chance to rehabilitate.

The strategic assessment coupled with consultation events with
partner agencies and residents have drawn together five key
priorities for the Thanet District for 2008/09.
These are in no particular order:
- Violence in the night-time
economy
- Domestic abuse
- Criminal damage
- Anti-social behaviour
- Substance misuse
