Priority 1 - Violence in the night-time economy
Violence in the night-time economyIdentified in the strategic
assessment as being the highest in the county and one of the
highest levels in Thanet’s ‘most similar group’ on government
website Iquanta. In particular there is reference to violent
offences on a Friday and Saturday night between 2100 and 0300
Aim
To tackle late night disorder, provide effective licensing and
reduce all violent offences, in particular, violence in a public
place.
Objectives 2008 – 2011
- Reduce alcohol and drug related disorder in the NTE including
binge drinking and underage drinking (County Agreement)
- To reduce violent crime (NI015 Serious violent crime rate)
- To reduce assaults with injury (NI020 Assault with injury crime
rate)
- Improve perceptions around safety in the night-time
economy (NI041 Perceptions of drunk or rowdy behaviour as a problem
and County Agreement)
Delivery of these objectives
Tackle late night disorder
The tactical group will direct enforcement operations through
Kent Police and Thanet District Council and will look to plan
preventative initiatives through the Community Safety Unit.
Provide effective licensing
Kent Police and Thanet District Council licensing officers will
work together to ensure that this is the case.
Reduce violence offences
The tactical group will co-ordinate resources to tackle violence
offences. The group will also look to task the Community Safety
Unit with projects that will target and reduce incidents in the
worse affected areas.
